The dream of
Ben Maunder
Prevention of unexplained stillbirth
Community Health
$5000 Winner
At the end of last year, Ben's baby son was stillborn at 35 weeks. His dream to help prevent the same heartbreak from happening to other families touched many of our voters. So our special $5,000 Sunsuper Dreams Australia Day grant is being donated to the Stillbirth Foundation of Australia to help fund more research into the causes of stillbirth.
Ben's original submission
“
At the end of last year my wife and I experienced something that no parent should have to go through - our first son died unexpectedly in utero and was born still at 35 weeks.”
All of our hopes and dreams for our unborn son were taken away from us. Everything was going so well. He was a perfect little baby and we were given no warning and no reason to why. Unfortunately we will never know what happened to our son and his death will remain unexplained.
It wasn't until it happened to us that we realised that there is so little known about stillbirth. The rate of stillbirth is largely unchanged, and research into the causes or ways to prevent stillbirth are only just beginning.
My dream is that through better research we can prevent this from happening to another family. The grant would be donated to The Stillbirth Foundation of Australia. They are dedicated to reducing the incidence of stillbirth.
